Cane (Thri) Cane is also available locally in the forests. It is not cultivated and also grows wild. If cane is not available then substitutes such as plastic are used. Jute Fiber (Sun) Jute fiber is available from the forests only. Its use is limited and it is not utilized to its maximum potential.
Tools Tools are required for cleaning, splitting and sizing the bamboo sticks. A Khasi knife called tari is used to shape the bamboo; as it is of a small size it is used for working on smaller surfaces. A bigger knife attached to a long bamboo stick called waitbnoh is used for cutting bamboo. ...
