Mangalia, Paresh,
Paresh Mangalia, Deputy Director, Khamir Paresh is a commerce graduate and associated with Khamir, a craft organisation based in Kutch since its inception in 2005. Paresh holds more than 20 years of experience in the handicraft sector and worked closely with every craft form of Kutch. He played a leading role in setting up Kala cotton and Desi Oon value chains in Khamir. He has been heading the marketing arm of Khamir for the last 5 years. He plays a key role in generating sustainable livelihoods for more than 200 craft units and 250 hand spinners of Kutch. He wishes to see the second generation of artisans coming into the craft sector and getting dignified livelihoods while continuing their living traditions.  

Mastani, Meeta,
Meeta Mastani works at the intersection of sustainable development, culture, craft, design, arts and retail.
She has co founded and runs Bindaas Unlimited- a social enterprise that makes contemporary textile prints in natural colours and contemporary crafts with rural artisans in Rajasthan, Gujarat and U.P. since the last 27 years. Her work currently impacts about 500 people. She chooses to work with people in long term relationships. Over the years she has worked in a sustained manner with over 5000 male and female artisans, in an ethical and collaborative way.
She is a co-founder of online and offline stores in India.
She is a practitioner and collaborates with artists in different parts of the world. Her art work has shown at The V & A in London, The Dutch Costume Museum in Amsterdam, The Rijksmuseum at Twenthe, and The Madison Children's Museum, amongst others.
She also teaches workshops on natural dyeing and hand printing of fibers.

Matthan, Ahalya,
Ahalya Matthan is one of the best recognised perfumers in India, having worked withseveral brands to build recognizable fragrance profiles for them. In 2015, Ally Matthan co-founded the #100sareepact, which led to a virtual movement to wear sarees and tell stories around them. A life-altering moment during the pact inspired her to pursue a path of knowledge and learning through working with weavers and weaving communities around the country. Her duty towards textiles and the extraordinary movement of 2015 led her to begin The Registry of Sarees in 2016. The Registry of Sarees is a trans-disciplinary research and documentation centre that focuses on publishing and exhibitions in the realm of hand spun and handwoven textiles. This is made possible because The Registry of Sarees is now home to two large, collections of textiles, including a hand spun and hand woven collection . Yali, a commercial platform was set up during the pandemic year of 2020 to host those projects that emerge through the research work at The Registry of Sarees.

McComb, Jessie F.,
Jessie F. McComb a Fulbright Scholar, was in New Delhi for a year studying the lost wax casting process of the Bastar region in Chhattisgarh and the surrounding areas. Back in America, she is going to contribute to our website in a new series Letter from America. Ms. McComb received a BA in both Art History and Physics in 2003 from Hamilton College, in Clinton, New York. In addition to her interests in Indian folk and tribal crafts, she has worked extensively with Contemporary Indian Art.

Meena, Madan,
Dr Madan Meena is a practicing visual artist and a researcher working extensively with the rural, nomadic and tribal communities. His personal association with his region and its people led him to choose as his doctoral thesis ‘Art of the Meena Tribe’. Focusing on the women of the Meena tribe he has documented and exhibited their art of wall painting across the country and abroad. His work on the subject is available in his two published books ‘Joy of Creativity’ and ‘Nurturing Walls’. As a curator, he designed an exhibition on brooms for the ‘Arna Jharna: The Desert Museum of Rajasthan’, Jodhpur. He was also Associate Director for the film ‘Jharu Katha (Broom Stories)’. His interest in folklore studies led him to work on the diverse repertoire of the Tejaji Ballad sung across central and south-eastern Rajasthan. For this he was initially supported by a grant from the University of Cambridge under the World Oral Literature Project and published a book ‘Tejaji Gatha’ and its audio DVD. Later to extend his documentation on the ballad he received a Senior Research Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. Madan is also a recipient of a Sahapedia–UNESCO Fellowship to study folklore among the Jogi community of eastern Rajasthan. Madan’s curiosity about languages led him to start work on the secret language of the de-notified and nomadic tribes. For this he received a fellowship from the Firebird Foundation for Anthropological Research, USA. For the People’s Linguistic Survey of India project he co-edited one of the volumes ‘The Languages of Rajasthan’. He has conducted various surveys and researches on the nomadic and denotified tribes (DNTs) of north and western India. Madan continually studies languishing craft traditions, the subject which he also teaches as a visiting faculty at some of the design institutes of India. He is a Trustee of Bhasha Research and Publication Centre-Vadodara, Executive Member of Kota Heritage Society and Executive Board Member of Gramin Shiksha Kendra-Sawai Madhopur. One of his important responsibilities currently is with the Adivasi Academy in Gujarat where he has been the Honorary Director for the last four years.

Priya Ravish Mehra is a freelance textile artist. Apart from teaching and design intervention she is actively involved in research and currently documenting the darning tradition in India.

Mehrotra, Bhawni,
Bhawni Mehrotra is a qualitative researcher with over 7 years of experience in the development sector. She has worked on public policy issues, particularly in the gender and livelihoods space. Her background in History, Sociology and Public Policy lends her research a unique perspective. With a deep love for the creative and cultural industries, she is currently working as Consultant- Advocacy, Research and Networking at All India Artisans and Craftworkers Welfare Association (AIACA), Delhi.

Mishra, Kundlata,
Kundlata Mishra Assistant Professor, NIFT, Mumbai has hands on experience working with various craft clusters including those in Waraseoni, Balaghat, Mandsaur, Yeola, Aurangabad and others. With a Master in textiles and clothing from Delhi University she has served as a Lecturer at Delhi University, with teaching experience of more than a decade. She closely worked with the crafts people in bamboo, textiles, leather and other craft clusters. She has also been a team member of research and development for a publication on Tribal Costumes of Gujarat, in 2009. At present she is working on a publication for Tribal Crafts of Gujarat with a team of her colleagues and students. Her research interests include Indian traditional textiles blending with the contemporary trends. In addition she has worked extensively for design solutions for the special individuals by developing functional garments for the market.

Ranjana Mohan has done her Masters in Economics and since then delved in many fields including banking, IT, education, reflexology and the crafts.

Mohan, Reena,
Reena Mohan is a freelance documentary filmmaker and film editor. She has recently completed a film on "Sujni" for PSBT, which was telecast on Doordarshan. Reena has won the Presidents National Award for her documentary film on Kamla Bai.

Mohsini, Mira,
Mira Mohsini is a doctoral candidate in Anthropology at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. She is conducting research on crafts communities in India, with particular focus on the impact of globalisation on the livelihoods of crafts-people and their knowledge systems. She is currently based in Delhi.

Mukherjee, Atish,
Atish Mukherjee Director, Eco-N-Viron Enterprise, a Natural Dye producing unit based in West Bengal. He has developed an innovative system to extract natural dyes and subsequently preserve them in a dense liquid form; to obtain shade variations by the use of dyeing and mordanting baths without creating pollution; and developed a method to achieve a light and wash fastness. Mustafa, Shabbir Hussain,
Shabbir Hussain Mustafa is an Assistant Curator with the National University of Singapore Museum. As a student of the arts, his research interests modern South and Southeast Asian history. His approach to understanding the arts has centered heavily on engaging different archives of thinking and writing, all in an attempt at opening up the archives to multivariate struggles of perception and reading. The South and Southeast Asian exhibitions that he recently curated include: Archives and Desires: Selections from the Mohammad Din Mohammad Collection (2008); I Polunin: Memories of Singapore through Film and Photographs (2009); Past-Present: Craft Communities in Contemporary India (2009) and Persistent Visions | Erika Tan (2009). His recent publications include "Re-membering the Intimate Past" in Shifts: Wong Hoy Cheong, 2002-2007 (2008); "Something" in Being: Ahmad Zakii Anwar (2009) and "The Science of the Native in Colonial Malaya" in Camping and Tramping through the Colonial Archive: The Museum in 19th Century Malaya (2010).

Zaheda N. Mulla with over 11+ years of professional legal experience, is currently the Managing Partner of WinLexis, law firm. She is an Alumni from IIM Bangalore, PGD in IPR (Intellectual Property Rights), The National School of India University, Bangalore, PGD in Marketing, The Times School of Marketing, Delhi with a M.Com and LL.B. degree. Her previous experience in the corporate world brings her expertise in business and law together. She has managed legal work for clients located in US, UK, Germany, France, Israel, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and India. She has also travelled on assignments to US and UK. She is one of the leading GI Consultant in India, advising clients ranging from The State Handicraft Govt. concern in Karnataka and other states, NGO’s in Karnataka and outside and groups of interested bodies. Nanda, Gulshan,
Gulshan Nanda has worked for over five decades in marketing Indian handicrafts and textiles. She retired as the (Hon) Chairperson of Central Cottage Industries Emporium. Since 2000 she has worked on the research and advocacy activities of CRT. She was a Member of the Planning Commission Steering Committee for Handloom and Handicrafts for the 12th Five Year plan, and Chairperson of the working group on Handicrafts. She has been awarded the Padma Shree by the Government of India for her services to the craft Sector.

Narayan, Sarika,
Sarika Narayan has been associated with the crafts sector for the past ten years. She currently works for a retail consultancy.

Nath, Anubhav,
Anubhav Nath is a full-time arts professional with an interest in writing, social development, mentorshipand historical automobiles. He is the Founder Director of Ojas Art, founded in 2006, an arts initiative promoting Indian contemporary arts, particularly Indian Indigenous Arts. An avid writer, Anubhav has written on the fast-growing Indian art market for The Art Newspaper and has researched for Art Tactic, both based in London. In India he has written for Businessweek. He was Contributing Editor to New York and Stuttgart based Maybach Foundation and has contributed essays to multiple art catalogs.
