Maya Mima was born in Kyoto in 1996 and spent their formative years studying in Pondicherry, India. They graduated in 2022 with a degree in History of Art from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan. In 2025, they completed their Master’s in Textile Arts from the Department of Crafts at Kyoto City University of Arts. Based in Kyoto, they currently work as a textile artisan while continuing their independent art practice, which centers on batik and natural dye techniques.
